Alitha van Straten’s name was drawn from all those that attended the IEASA / REBOSA Roadshow in May 2011, which was sponsored by SA Home Loans. Her prize was a seat on the trip to the NAR conference plus $1000 spending money, courtesy of SA Home Loans Nelspruit.
Alitha’s since attended the National Realtors Conference in Anaheim, California from 7 – 18 November 2011 and tells us her story!
“I just want to express my sincere appreciation to SA Home Loans for the sponsorship that gave me the opportunity to attend the NAR in Anaheim this year. We were 83 in the South African group which was a handful, but we all cope very well and got back safely and inspired. It was an unforgettable lifetime experience. The NAR itself was amazing and the lectures of a very high standard. We registered and paid for the full conference which included all the recordings of the training sessions for the whole period via the internet to view at home or the office. It was just impossible to attend all of them as they scheduled a few sessions at the same time.
We took time off to visit a few places in Los Angeles, e.g. Disney Land and Universal Studios. We even took a day tour to Mexico which was one of the highlights. In Las Vegas we stayed in the Luxor Hotel which is situated on, what they call, "The Strip" where everything happens-just glamour and more glamour, but very artificial. We took a day tour to the Grand Canyon by means of a bus, a 14 seat plane, a helicopter that took us to the floor of the Grand Canyon and a boat trip on the river. This for me was the ultimate experience. What you see on the television about the Grand Canyon is beautiful, but to see it in real life is awesome.
We had lovely weather throughout the whole trip except for New York - it was freezing cold. New York, like they say, never sleeps – I went up the Empire State Building at 23h30 and got back to the hotel past midnight. Some shops never close – open 24/7. You need two weeks for New York and we had two days – hectic, but it was worth every dollar. We stayed in an old hotel in Manhattan (1700 beds) which is very centrally situated. The bad part of the whole trip was the long flights, but we have done it, we survived and I must say also very grateful to be back home with my loved ones (oh dear I missed them so much). We craved good food (chops, steaks, veggies, etc.) South Africa is still a great country!
Thank you once again for such a great opportunity – would never have done it on my own.”
