Waterloo’s Othandweni Crèche gets a loving facelift during Youth Month

June was officially Youth Month in South Africa and we couldn’t think of a better way to support our local youth than by rolling up our sleeves and getting stuck into some renovation work at the Othandweni Crèche in Waterloo, Durban North.

We spent a day renovating a learning environment

Twenty-six eager SA Home Loans CSR volunteers visited the crèche on 1 June, where they spent the day brightening up the classrooms, ablution facilities and outdoor play area with a fresh coat of paint and interactive decorations.

In addition to our painting activities, SA Home Loans sponsored the purchase of a large container, which was converted into two new classrooms; we also sponsored the building of three new ablution facilities for the crèche.

And the end result? An environment that is safer, more conducive to learning and – most importantly – more fun to be in for the kids. Special thanks to Angel Projects (one of our CSR Partners) and Othandweni for allowing us to assist.

About Othandweni Creche

Othandweni means ‘LOVE’ and has been lovingly run by Ms. Nonhlanhla Primrose Banda since 2003. Primrose started the crèche in her own house, from where she operated for 10 years until she was able acquire and move to Othandweni’s current premises in Waterloo in 2013.
