Job Purpose
The Compliance Consultant will be responsible for conducting Know Your Customer (KYC) reviews, performing Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks, and ensuring that all transactions and business relationships adhere South African regulatory frameworks. The role will also support the MLRO in policy implementation, maintaining the highest standards of ethical and operational integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing, implementing and managing SAHL Group compliance program
- Conduct KYC reviews and client due diligence in line with our RMCP and applicable Legislation.
- Perform AML and sanctions screening using approved systems and databases.
- Monitor client onboarding and ongoing compliance processes for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify, escalate, and report potential non-compliance or regulatory breaches.
- Maintain detailed compliance and risk records in accordance with company policy.
- Support the Senior Compliance Specialist preparation, documentation, and regulatory reporting.
- Assist in reviewing and updating internal compliance policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with business development, underwriting, and claims teams to ensure full compliance throughout the client lifecycle.
- Stay abreast of relevant regulatory changes and industry best practices South African jurisdictions.
Relationship with regulatory bodies
- Engaging with industry bodies, other stakeholders through formal workshops and individually; and
- Assist with submission of regulatory reports, information requests, participation in research and survey questionnaires and process, feedback on specific items of a regulatory nature.
Creating and coordinating proper reporting channels for compliance issues
- Ensure that there are proper non-compliance reporting channels for staff and external parties:
- Ensure non-compliance incident registers and trends are recorded and maintained where applicable:
- Ensuring that compliance reporting takes place at suitable intervals and in an appropriate format for the reporting of outcomes of monitoring reviews and controls implemented to the Senior Compliance Specialist/ Manager.
Training and awareness (Coordinating and scheduling required compliance training for staff
- Cultivating a compliance training culture
- Compile information relevant for business units on compliance matters
- Advise the relevant business unit management on latest trends withing the compliance environment
- Arrange for or prepare presentations to relevant business units on compliance obligations or updates
- Provide training and training communications to create awareness.

Minimum Requirements
1. Education
- Matric
- Relevant 3 year qualification consisting of Legal or finance.
- LLB plus a relevant Compliance Management Certificate and/or AML certificate would be an advantage.
2. Experience
- 2 to 3 years experience in a legal, compliance banking, and strong knowledge of regulatory compliance guidelines and standards within a financial services sector.
