In 2001 we purchased our first home, but had to sell it after a year to move to George for urgent medical treatment for our then 4 year old son. He suffered from a rare neurodegenerative illness, [Shrinking of the brain]. In 2002 we purchased a home in George, but had to sell it after 10 months when we were informed that our son's condition is terminal, and that he will not live longer than the age of 8. We lost so much money in the process, but I needed to move back to where our support system was. I could not bear the thought of burying my son in George where we knew no-one. In 2003 we returned to Grahamstown and rented a house. In 2004 we bought the house we are currently living in. Our bond was initially with FNB, but due to my son's condition, we needed extra money to renovate the bathroom, buy much needed medical equipment and pay for medical expenses not covered by our medical aid. When we approached SAHL, we received wonderful and heart-warming service and immediately switched our bond to SAHL. For the first time in years we were able to breathe financially and to cater for the needs of our darling son, who sadly passed away on 23 August 2008. Our daughter, could for the first time partake in modelling which was her dream since she was only 6. She did so well that in 2006 she was crowned Teen Miss World SA and represented our country in Turkey.
